上海市第一人民醫(yī)院始建于1864年，史稱“公濟醫(yī)院”，英文名Shanghai General Hospital，為當(dāng)時國內(nèi)規(guī)模最大的西醫(yī)醫(yī)院，也是全國建院最早的西醫(yī)綜合性醫(yī)院之一。醫(yī)院“一院兩址”，分設(shè)虹口和松江兩部，同時全面接管嘉定江橋醫(yī)院。新冠疫情期間，派員任全國第一支援鄂醫(yī)療隊領(lǐng)隊和專家組組長,涌現(xiàn)出全國優(yōu)秀共產(chǎn)黨員、全國勞模等一大批先進(jìn)典型，受到黨和國家以及上海市領(lǐng)導(dǎo)的充分肯定。獲第六屆“全國文明單位”和“全國紅十字模范單位”榮譽稱號。國家三級公立醫(yī)院績效考核獲A++最高考評等級，在全國2413家三級公立醫(yī)院中位列綜合醫(yī)院類第12名，上海第3名。
醫(yī)院現(xiàn)設(shè)北部（虹口區(qū)武進(jìn)路85/86號）南部（松江區(qū)新松江路650號），共占地約29.5萬㎡。2021年醫(yī)院有職工4594人，核定床位1820張，南北兩部臨床一級學(xué)科和醫(yī)技學(xué)科共48個。2021年醫(yī)院收治門急診患者453.8萬人次；出院人數(shù)13.3萬；手術(shù)人次10.7萬。醫(yī)療服務(wù)結(jié)構(gòu)轉(zhuǎn)型下質(zhì)量與效率保持高水準(zhǔn)、穩(wěn)增長。
醫(yī)院成立上海首家高標(biāo)準(zhǔn)臨床研究院，打造創(chuàng)新聯(lián)合體，獲批建設(shè)轉(zhuǎn)化醫(yī)學(xué)國家科學(xué)中心（上海）市一分中心。積極開展醫(yī)療人工智能、分子影像、生物材料、細(xì)胞、微創(chuàng)等多方面的科研合作。近幾年，獲國家科技部重點研發(fā)計劃等重大研究項目、國家自然科學(xué)基金項目數(shù)突飛猛進(jìn)，發(fā)表一大批以Science、JAMA等為代表的高水平論文。醫(yī)院2021年獲國家自然科學(xué)基金92項，國家重點研發(fā)計劃5項，國家科技進(jìn)步獎二等獎1項，上海市科技進(jìn)步獎一等獎1項等眾多獎項。醫(yī)院現(xiàn)有住院醫(yī)師規(guī)范化培訓(xùn)國家基地20個；專科醫(yī)師規(guī)范化培訓(xùn)國家基地3個，上海市基地24個。現(xiàn)有博導(dǎo)92名，碩導(dǎo)129名，博士點27個，博士后流動站27個，碩士點37個。代表中國參加世界醫(yī)學(xué)教育聯(lián)合會評定，高質(zhì)量通過評審，獲得國際認(rèn)可，被評為國家級臨床教學(xué)培訓(xùn)示范中心（培育）單位。

The hospital established the first high standard clinical research institute in Shanghai, created an innovative consortium, and was approved to build the first branch of the National Science Center of translational medicine (Shanghai).
