上海市內分泌代謝病研究所已形成以轉化型醫(yī)學為理念的內分泌代謝病系統(tǒng)生物學研究體系，在凝練為遺傳性內分泌代謝病臨床診治以及慢性非傳染性代謝病發(fā)病機制、流行病學研究兩大方向的同時，重點建設內分泌代謝病臨床診治、預防、預警和研發(fā)體系。該體系進一步依托專業(yè)化的臨床研究公共服務平臺和協(xié)同研究網絡，致力于開展大規(guī)模、前瞻性、多中心、高質量的臨床診療規(guī)范研究。本研究所已形成一支梯隊層次合理，團結奮進，朝氣蓬勃，極富創(chuàng)新能力的團隊，形成了較強的學科、基地、團隊等綜合優(yōu)勢，承擔了一批國家級科研項目，獲得了一批科研成果，培養(yǎng)了一批高水平人才，集聚了一批優(yōu)秀的中青年學者。為國家臨床醫(yī)學研究中心、國家衛(wèi)健委重點實驗室、國家重點學科、國家臨床重點專科、上海市重點實驗室等學科基地，承辦兩本學術期刊，《中華內分泌代謝雜志》為受中華醫(yī)學會的委托承辦的國內學術影響力最高的內分泌代謝學術期刊，《Journal of Diabetes》為國內唯一被SCI收錄的內分泌代謝病學術期刊，臨床內分泌實驗室為國內唯一通過美國病理家協(xié)會（CAP）認證的內分泌專業(yè)實驗室。
所長和學科帶頭人為寧光，中國工程院院士，973首席科學家，長江學者特聘教授，上海交通大學醫(yī)學院附屬瑞金醫(yī)院院長，學術任職《中華內分泌代謝雜志》總編輯和《Journal of Diabetes》主編，長期從事內分泌代謝病臨床與科研工作，在遺傳性內分泌疾病、腎上腺疾病與糖尿病臨床診治取得豐碩成果，四次獲得國家科技進步二等獎。
為響應國家“健康中國”戰(zhàn)略規(guī)劃，本研究所將加強醫(yī)學科技創(chuàng)新體系建設，努力將自身打造為臨床醫(yī)學和轉化研究的高地，在運行機制、思維方式及觀念、臨床診療技術和科研思路和方法等方面按照國際通行的運作方式運作，成為一開放的、創(chuàng)新的、充滿活力的研究所，從而能把握國際內分泌學的發(fā)展潮流，建立自身的特色，成為具有自身特點的可參與國際競爭的臨床醫(yī)學科研機構。

Shanghai Institute of endocrine and metabolic diseases has formed a research system of systemic biology of endocrine and metabolic diseases based on the concept of translational medicine. While condensing into the two directions of clinical diagnosis and treatment of hereditary endocrine and metabolic diseases and the pathogenesis and epidemiology of chronic non communicable metabolic diseases, Shanghai Institute of endocrine and metabolic diseases focuses on the construction of clinical diagnosis and treatment, prevention, early warning and R & D system of endocrine and metabolic diseases. The system further relies on the professional clinical research public service platform and collaborative research network, and is committed to carrying out large-scale, prospective, multi center and high-quality clinical diagnosis and treatment standard research. The Institute has formed a team with reasonable echelon, unity, progress, vitality and innovative ability, formed strong comprehensive advantages such as disciplines, bases and teams, undertaken a number of national scientific research projects, obtained a number of scientific research achievements, trained a number of high-level talents and gathered a number of excellent young and middle-aged scholars. It is the national clinical medicine research center, the Key Laboratory of the National Health Commission, the national key discipline, the national key clinical specialty, the Shanghai Key Laboratory and other discipline bases, and undertakes two academic journals. The Chinese Journal of Endocrinology and metabolism is the domestic academic journal of Endocrinology and metabolism with the highest academic influence entrusted by the Chinese Medical Association, It is the only laboratory of endocrinology in China that has been certified by the Journal of Endocrinology and pathology of the United States.
The director and discipline leader is Ning Guang, academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, 973 chief scientist, distinguished professor of Changjiang Scholars, President of Ruijin Hospital Affiliated to the Medical School of Shanghai Jiaotong University, academically serving as the chief editor of the Chinese Journal of Endocrinology and metabolism and the chief editor of the Journal of Diabetes. He has been engaged in clinical and scientific research of endocrine and metabolic diseases for a long time The clinical diagnosis and treatment of adrenal diseases and diabetes have yielded fruitful results, and four times the two prize of national scientific and technological progress.
