In 2016, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine established the major of Biomedical Science (belongs to the first-level discipline of basic medicine), and became the training base for top-notch basic medicine talents of the Ministry of Education. The major is designed to cultivate leading talents in the field of medical research and education with profound mathematical, physical and chemical skills and modern life science knowledge, as well as comprehensive medical knowledge, lofty ideals, noble sentiment, innovative thinking and global vision. The whole course tutorial system is implemented, focusing on the cultivation of scientific spirit and innovative ability. At least one international study tour is provided to broaden students' international vision. Graduates can be recommended to study in prestigious overseas universities, or engage in scientific research and teaching in medical colleges, grade-A hospitals, medical institutions and biomedical companies. Biomedical Sciences is a national first-class major and has been selected into the "Strong Foundation Program" and "Top-notch Students Training Program 2.0" of the Ministry of Education relying on Zhiyuan College of Shanghai Jiao Tong University, the Top-notch Talents Training Base of the Ministry of Education.
