On the morning of April 11, a delegation led by Professor édouard Kaminski, President of Université Paris Cité, visited the Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine (SJTUSM). Professor Fan Xianqun, Chancellor of SJTUSM and Academician of the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and Professor Zheng Junke, Vice Chancellor of SJTUSM, warmly received the guests. Representatives of the Office of International Affairs and the Sino-French Joint Medical School were also present at the meeting.

The visit began with a tour of the school’s History Museum, where the delegation learned about the founding of SJTUSM and its accomplishments in talent cultivation, education, and medical services.

Following the tour, the two sides held a meeting to exchange ideas. Professor Fan Xianqun noted that the collaboration between SJTUSM and the French medical community has a long-standing history and has become an example of excellence in nurturing innovative medical talent in China. Université Paris Cité is a long-time friend of SJTUSM, and the bond between the two institutions continues to deepen. He expressed hope that on the solid foundation already established, the two sides will further strengthen their friendship, deepen mutual trust, and enhance mutual learning. Together, they can explore new possibilities in education, scientific research, and innovation, making greater contributions to building a closer China-France partnership.

Professor édouard Kaminski praised the fruitful outcomes of the cooperation between Université Paris Cité and SJTUSM. The two institutions have jointly nurtured a group of medical professionals with both global vision and innovative capabilities, setting a model for China-France higher education collaboration. He emphasized that this visit presents an important opportunity to further strengthen ties. Université Paris Cité will continue to leverage its disciplinary strengths in the medical field, expand the dimensions and enrich the content of cooperation, and elevate the partnership to a new level—contributing wisdom and strength to the advancement of China-France medical exchange and the promotion of global health.



The meeting was chaired by Ms. Zhang Yin, Executive Vice Dean of the Sino-French Joint Medical School. Professor Zheng Junke introduced SJTUSM in areas such as disciplinary development, faculty strength, scientific innovation, and medical services. Professor Matthieu Resche-Rigon, Dean of the Faculty of Medicine at Université Paris Cité, gave a detailed overview of the school's academic programs and disciplinary features. Professor Frédéric Batteux, French Vice Dean of the Sino-French Joint Medical School, reviewed the history of the school’s development and highlighted several representative China-France collaborative projects, showcasing the depth and breadth of their joint medical education initiatives. The two sides then had in-depth discussions on strengthening joint master’s degree programs, exchanges of high-level research talent, and scientific collaboration.

Romain Jacquet, Counsellor for Healthcare and Social Affairs at the French Embassy in China, spoke highly of the long-standing and in-depth cooperation between SJTUSM and Université Paris Cité in the field of medical education. He noted that their partnership has not only cultivated a large number of outstanding medical professionals but has also built a vital bridge for China-France medical exchange. The Sino-French Medical School, as a flagship project of educational cooperation between the two countries, fully demonstrates the vibrancy of the China-France partnership. The French Embassy will continue to offer its full support to the cooperation between the two institutions and looks forward to jointly exploring innovative cooperation models in the future.
