Shanghai Key Laboratory of Stomatology was formed in 2003 and officially established in 2006. The laboratory has participated in the evaluation of key laboratories for four times, and 3 out of 4 evaluations are excellent. Professor Qiu Weiliu, the honorary Chairman of the key lab and professor Zhang Zhiyuan, the Chairman of the key lab are academicians of Stomatology in China. In addition, Professor Tonetti, editor-in-chief of the highly ranked “Journal of Clinical Periodontology”, is also our full-time professor.Shanghai Key Laboratory has been included in all of the major discipline construction projects led by the Chinese government, including National Key Disciplines, "211" Project, and "Double First-Class" Disciplines, and others. The key lab is also the important parts of both the National Stomatological Center and the National Clinical Research Center for Oral Diseases.In the past few years, Shanghai Key Laboratory of Stomatology has undertaken 250 national-level scientific research projects with a total funding of 130 million yuan, including 4 national key R&D projects, 1 innovative research groups of the national natural science foundation of China, 2 national natural science outstanding youth funds, 2 excellent youth program of national natural science foundation of China and 3 national natural science foundation key projects. The key laboratories now have five major branch laboratories, all of which have implemented PI and co-PI management systems. The main research directions of the laboratory include: (1) new molecular diagnostic techniques, personalized drug development for oral cancer; (2) functional regeneration in mandible; (3) joint study of oral diseases-systemic diseases; (4) oral digital medicine and hereditary diseases.
