The Shanghai Key Laboratory of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition was established by Xinhua Hospital affiliated to Shanghai Jiaotong University School of Medicine, approved by Shanghai Municipal Science and Technology Commission in 2011 and officially listed in 2013 after completion of acceptance. In the process of interdisciplinary combination of clinical medicine and basic research, the laboratory has established a good clinical and scientific research base, and has set up experimental technology platforms of molecular genetics, cell biology, intestinal microecology, pathology and a biological sample bank in line with international standards. The main research directions of the laboratory include: ① pediatric intestinal failure; ② pediatric intestinal failure; ③ prevention and treatment of complications of long-term nutritional support in critically ill children; ④ childhood obesity; ⑤ human breast milk.The laboratory has made great progress in molecular genetics of congenital megacolon, early diagnosis of biliary atresia and mechanism of liver fibrosis, prevention and treatment of liver damage related to intestinal failure, and research on the relationship between intestinal flora and intestinal immunity. Aiming at the frontier of international medical science development and research, the laboratory integrates related disciplines and conducts epidemiological, etiological and standardized diagnosis and treatment research on digestive tract abnormalities and difficult digestive tract diseases, and has gradually become a leading center in this field in China and influential in the international arena, while striving to become an important platform for academic exchange, a base for training outstanding talents and a key laboratory leading the development of the discipline in the field of pediatric digestion and nutrition at home and abroad.
