Biography
Dr. Lai-ping Zhong, is Professor and Vice Chair of the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial - Head & Neck Oncology at Shanghai Ninth People’s Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine; College of Stomatology, Shanghai Jiao Tong University. He serves as the Director of Clinical Research for the Department of Oral & Maxillofacial - Head & Neck Oncology. After earning his PhD and MD degree at Zhejiang University, and Postdoctoral degree at Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine, he works till now at Ninth People’s Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. From 2011 to 2012, he visited MD Anderson Cancer Center as Visiting Associate Professor (Faculty) and established friendship with Professor Jeffrey N. Myers at the Department of Head and Neck Surgery.
He is secretary-in-chief of Shanghai Center of Head and Neck Oncology, Clinical and Translational Science; standing committee member of Head and Neck Oncology Committee, Chinese Society of Clinical Oncology (CSCO); standing committee member of Branch of Plastic Oncology and Functional Surgery Committee, China International Exchange and Promotive Association for Medical and Health Care (CPAM); member of Oral Maxillofacial Head and Neck Oncology Committee, Chinese Association of Stomatology; member of Branch of Translational Medicine Committee, Chinese Society of Biotechnology; member of Translational Medicine Committee, CSCO; committee member of Branch of Prevention and Treatment of Nasopharyngeal Cancer, CPAM.
Dr. Zhong’s clinical practice focuses on oral maxillofacial head and neck oncology, he specializes in the surgical treatment of oral maxillofacial head and neck tumors. He is actively engaged in basic and translational research, with emphasis on clinical trials in oral and oropharyngeal cancer. He leads a multidisciplinary team project of the management of oral and oropharyngeal cancer at Ninth People’s Hospital, Shanghai Jiao Tong University School of Medicine. He has published over 180 peer-reviewed original articles, including 93 international original articles, in Journal of Clinical Oncology, Annals of Oncology, Cancer Letters, Lancet Oncology, and so on. His scientific research has been funded by 32 foundations or projects, from the National Natural Science Foundation of China (7 item), the key project of Science and Technology Commission of Shanghai Municipality (1 item), and so on. Dr. Zhong has received the Second Prize of the Natural Science of Excellent Scientific Research Achievements of the Ministry of Education (First place), Shulan Medical Youth Award, Shanghai Youth Science and Technology Talents, Shanghai Outstanding Youth Position Expert, Shanghai Excellent Academic Leader, Shanghai Health System “Silver Snake Award”.
