Research Interests

  • Mammalian spermatogenesis is a unique cell differentiation process including mitosis, meiosis and spermiogenesis. During meiosis prophase I, telomeres are implicated in the regulation of homologous paring and synapsis. By structural biology studies and mouse model analysis, we aim to reveal the structural basis and molecular mechanism of telomere associated protein complexes in regulating homolog pairing and synapsis. Spermiogenesis is the development of spermatids into mature spermatozoa that possess specific morphology and structure to ensure the effective sperm-egg recognition and fusion. Many cases of male infertility involve abnormal sperm structures, and some of them are caused by genetic mutations. By analysis of mouse models, we aim to unveil the pathogenic mechanism of related gene mutations to provide theoretical guidance for the clinical diagnosis and treatment of patients with malformed spermatozoa.
