Research Interests
Dr. Li conducts research on pulmonary diseases, including hypoxia and sleep apnea, with a focus on their relation to obesity and metabolic syndrome. Obstructive sleep apnea (OSA) is a highly prevalent disease affecting 25-30% of the adult population and more than 50% of obese individuals. OSA plays a major role in the development and progression of cardiovascular and metabolic diseases. There is a bi-directional relationship between respiratory and metabolic health. Dr. Li’s Studies include metabolic / cardiovascular impacts of OSA, effects circadian rhythm and exercise rehabilitation on substrate metabolism, the pathogenesis of OSA, and interventions for obesity hypoventilation syndrome.
