Research Interests
Prof Zhao focuses on clinical diagnosis and treatment of colorectal cancer. He has carried out more than 5000 colorectal surgeries, performing over 500 colorectal cancer surgeries per year. Meanwhile, he has devoted himself into the development and performance of minimally invasive surgery technique in colorectal cancer, especially for “Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS)”and “Da-Vinci Robotic Surgery”. He has carried out over 800 single incision laparoscopic surgeries and 500 based on Da-Vinci platform. He has reported the largest number of single-incision laparoscopic total mesorectal excision (TME) performed in single center in 2017, at the 33th Annual meeting of American Surgical Research (ASR) association in Las Vegas, USA. As an authority of colorectal surgery subfield. Prof Zhao won “The Third Class of National Scientific and Technological Progress Award”. He also has made outstanding achievements in the fundamental oncological research of colorectal cancer, hoping that full course of treatment of will help to pursue the maximum benefit of patients. He is the leading Principle Investigator (PI) of 3 items of “National Natural Science Foundation of China (NSFC)” and 5 items of “Provincial and Ministerial level Project”, with over 20 high level publications included in SCI in recent 5 years.
