Bacterial biofilm colonization caused refractory biofilm-related infections. Present systemic antibiotic therapy has disadvantages of not being sufficiently effective due to impaired blood circulation and high tolerance of antibiotics. Biofilm shelters is an unique characteristic of mature biofilm with three-dimensional structure, which can be destroyed through induced biofilm dispersion, and consequential reduced antibiotic tolerance; Biofilm dispersion could be induced by environmental nutritions limitation, and biofilm colonization could be eliminated by sequential treatment with relative low concentration of antibiotics; Our target is to provide new therapeutic strategies and targets for chronic infections represented by osteomyelitis and improve the efficacy of traditional antibiotics.
