Research Interests

• My research focuses on the discovery of genes and mechanisms underlying a variety of congenital anomalies of the digestive system including Hirschsprung's disease, biliary atresia and choledochal cyst. We use high-throughput genotyping strategies, such as whole-genome SNP arrays, and Next-generation sequencing (NGS) to search for novel mutations and loci/genes involved in disease. We explore the molecular mechanisms of disease utilizing multidisciplinary approaches such as single cell transcriptional analyses, zebrafish and mouse models. The overall goals are to elucidate the genetic architecture of the congenital anomalies of the digestive system and to assess how genomic information can be used in the era of personalized medicine.
