Research Interests
Dr. Fan is interested in the molecular diagnosis and etiological research of rare diseases in pediatrics, especially those associated with neurodevelopmental disorders. Her research focuses on two areas: 1) molecular diagnostics of rare pediatric diseases: utilizing the high-throughput methods (exome/genome sequencing, microarrays, etc.) to identify causal variants in genetic disorders and employing an evidence-based framework to interpret the clinical significance of variants; 2) etiological research of neurodevelopmental disorders: identifying novel candidate genes that contribute to neurodevelopment, using human iPS-neuron based model and transcriptomic/epigenetic approaches to investigate the intrinsic regulatory mechanisms underlying brain development and the etiology of brain developmental disorders like intellectual disability and autism.
